ADB and FBR Collaborate to Advance Digital Tax Administration in Islamabad

Islamabad, The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) have launched a new phase in their collaboration with a focus on digitalizing Pakistan's tax administration. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance tax compliance and modernize tax services in line with global standards.

According to Zameen.Com, a recent meeting at the FBR headquarters in Islamabad, led by ADB Senior Director Tariq Niazi and attended by FBR leadership, marked a significant step forward in the Domestic Resource Mobilization Program (DRM). The ADB team expressed satisfaction with the progress made, especially with the achievements under Sub Program I, which has significantly improved the FBR’s policies and institutional capacities.

The FBR is setting its sights on transitioning into a fully digital tax administration, which aligns with the Prime Minister’s goals to modernize the economy and enhance its competitiveness on the global stage. Key objectives of this transformation include reducing taxpayer compliance costs, broadening the tax base, and ensuring a sustainable growth in revenue.

Furthering this mission, the FBR announced its plans to collaborate with Karandaaz to develop a comprehensive digital strategy. The ADB has shown strong interest in supporting this strategy and both parties have agreed to explore further avenues to strengthen their partnership in advancing the Digital Tax Administration Project in Pakistan.
