FBR to Block SIM Cards of Non-Filers by Mid-May, PTA to Enforce Compliance

Islamabad, The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced that it will block the SIM cards of 506,671 tax non-filers by May 15, intensifying efforts to enforce tax compliance. This move comes despite previous reluctance from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

According to Zameen.Com, the FBR is set to hold an emergency meeting with mobile operators to ensure that they meet the upcoming deadline. The authority has also issued a stern warning about legal consequences for operators that fail to comply. Affected individuals are urged to check their tax filing status on the FBR website and resolve any discrepancies to restore their SIM card services.

The directive stipulates that the SIM cards will remain blocked until the FBR or the relevant tax authority reinstates them. Furthermore, both the PTA and telecommunications operators have been mandated to adhere strictly to this directive, with a compliance report required by the deadline of May 15.
