Japan Partners with NTDC to Revamp Training Infrastructure for Power Sector Personnel

Lahore, Japan has committed to aiding the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) in upgrading training facilities tailored for power sector personnel. This collaboration aspires to employ a hybrid or container-based model for on-field training, aiming to keep pace with the evolving technological advancements in the power sector.

According to a news release by National Transmission and Despatch Company, Engr. Dr. Rana Abdul Jabbar Khan, Managing Director of NTDC, emphasized the significance of adapting to the modern technological shifts in the power sector during a meeting with a consultant team from AEC Japan. The gathering, held at WAPDA House Lahore, centered around evaluating the progress of the JICA Japan/TSG NTDC Project, dedicated to augmenting the Grid System Operations and Maintenance Training Capacity via the TSG Training Centre. Furthermore, they discussed potential training sessions, refresher courses, and the exploration of new projects in collaboration with JICA to elevate the NTDC system.

Engr. Dr. Khan underscored the imperative nature of staying updated with emerging technologies in the power sector, emphasizing the need for adopting contemporary training methodologies and tools for operations and maintenance. He extended his gratitude to the Government of Japan and JICA for their unwavering support in equipping NTDC employees with quality training facilities.

Reiterating the importance of safety in the power sector, MD NTDC urged the implementation of safety training sessions to minimize the risk of fatal accidents. He also instructed the NTDC team to formulate a strategy for incorporating the container-based model, particularly for remote training in the challenging terrains of the southern region. Engr. Dr. Khan expressed his vision for NTDC to redefine training standards in the power sector, seeking JICA's continued support in this endeavour.

An AEC representative pledged comprehensive technical assistance to NTDC in the integration of the hybrid/container-based model for remote training and other pertinent NTDC projects.

Among those in attendance at the meeting were Deputy Managing Director (P and E), Engr. Qaiser Khan, General Manager (TSG), Safdar Ali, Chief Engineer (TSG) North Muhammad Shahid Nazir, along with other distinguished NTDC officers.
