Lahore: The Chief of Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), Shahid Haider, has assured the resolution of systemic issues and reinforced a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct within the company. The commitment came during a meeting with the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), where pressing issues such as overbilling, power theft, and unjustified legal cases against businesses were discussed.
According to Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, LCCI President Mian Abuzar Shad, along with Senior Vice President Engineer Khalid Usman and Vice President Shahid Nazir Chaudhry, highlighted several challenges faced by the business sector. These included concerns over Maximum Demand Indicator (MDI) charges imposed by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), delayed bill deliveries, and dangerous power line conditions in market areas.
Shahid Haider stated that LESCO staff have been directed to respect consumers and respond promptly to complaints. He addressed the longstanding issue of overbilling, noting it has been resolved, and emphasized that LESCO is taking strict action against any staff misconduct. Haider also mentioned ongoing efforts to reduce line losses, which stood at 15.4 percent last year, and improve electricity transmission.
The LCCI President called for improvements in LESCO's bill distribution system to prevent late payments and service disconnections. He suggested that bills for damaged meters be based on seasonal consumption variations, rather than average annual usage. He also noted NEPRA's report indicating LESCO's line losses resulted in significant financial losses, urging for public awareness initiatives on energy conservation.
Haider invited LCCI to report illegal FIRs against businessmen for prompt action and assured that steps are underway to streamline connection processes for the business community. The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to collaboration between LCCI and LESCO to support the local business environment.
