Pakistan Seeks $230 Million World Bank Restructuring for Karachi Urban Project

Karachi, The Pakistani government has formally requested the World Bank to restructure a significant urban development initiative in Karachi, aiming to enhance the city's competitiveness and livability with a $230 million investment.

According to Zameen.Com, the "Competitive and Livable City of Karachi Project" is designed to improve urban management, services, and the business environment in Karachi. However, to date, only 34% of the allocated funds have been utilized. The government is seeking to extend the project's deadline and expand its scope to include more local councils than initially planned.

This request for restructuring also includes proposals to simplify the project management unit's procurement processes. The need for these changes has arisen due to the involvement of additional local councils, which reportedly lack the capacity of their predecessors, complicating the project's implementation.
