Punjab Plans to Outsource Waste Management Operations to Improve Efficiency

Multan, The Punjab government is set to outsource the operational and recovery wings of all waste management companies to increase efficiency and expand waste management services from cities to districts within their respective divisions.

According to Zameen.Com, Mian Rashid Iqbal, Chairman of the Multan Waste Management Company (MWMC), stated that the Punjab local government has directed waste management companies to execute this outsourcing plan. The process involves shortlisting potential bidders and awarding contracts to the bidder offering the lowest rates, with the implementation expected to start in June 2024.

Under the proposed plan, the selected vendor will rent existing machinery from the waste management company, pay salaries to sanitary workers, address staff and machinery shortages, establish landfill sites, and collect sanitation taxes. The outsourcing strategy aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of waste management services across Punjab.

However, the plan is subject to final approval from the Punjab government. The waste management services will commence once the approval is obtained from the relevant authority.

This move represents a strategic shift in Punjab's approach to waste management, reflecting a growing trend toward public-private partnerships to address critical infrastructure needs.
