Karachi, A groundbreaking collaboration between Zindigi, powered by JS Bank, the Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA), People Bus Service, and Mastercard has revolutionized Karachi's public transportation system. This innovative partnership has launched an advanced digital payment system, aiming to bring Karachi's urban travel standards up to international levels. The initiative, dubbed the first open-loop transit solution in Pakistan, promises unprecedented ease and convenience for the millions of commuters in the city.
According to JS Bank Limited, the initial phase of the project involves the distribution of over one million Zindigi Mastercard Travel cards, alongside enabling existing Zindigi Card users to transition to cashless transactions. These cards are tailored to streamline fare payments across Karachi's bus networks, reducing wait times and simplifying the commuting experience. Additionally, beyond transportation, the card will serve the recipients' banking needs, providing a comprehensive solution for everyday transactions.
Noman Azhar, Chief Officer at Zindigi, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, emphasizing its transformative potential. He highlighted the card's unique features, including its dual functionality as a transit card and a regular debit card for use at ATMs and POS machines nationwide. Azhar emphasized the commitment to enhancing the overall journey experience for commuters.
The Sindh Government also lauded the collaboration, noting the historic significance of introducing an automated fare collection system in mixed-traffic buses, marking a milestone for Pakistan's public transportation sector.
