Karachi: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) reported a notable increase in local mobile phone manufacturing and assembly, with 3.01 million units produced in September 2025. This marks a 40% year-over-year and 55% month-over-month growth.
The year-over-year growth is attributed to a low base in September 2024, when sales were subdued due to excessive pre-buying in June 2024 ahead of anticipated budget changes. The month-over-month increase is largely driven by pent-up consumer demand, as buyers held off on purchases in anticipation of new model launches.
Major brands like Samsung, Xiaomi, and Infinix introduced their latest models—Galaxy S25 FE, Redmi 15 series, and Infinix Note 40X 5G—during the month, leading to a surge in replacement and upgrade activity.
For the first nine months of 2025, sales of locally manufactured or assembled mobile phones reached 22.78 million units, reflecting a 1% year-over-year increase. Of these units, 48% were 2G phones, while the remaining 52% were smartphones, meeting 94% of the country’s mobile phone demand through local production.
Looking ahead, analysts expect mobile phone sales to grow by 7-8% year-over-year over the next 12 months. This growth is anticipated to be supported by a stable Pakistani rupee, easing inflation, and improving consumer purchasing power.
In the listed sector, companies like Airlink Communication and Lucky Cement are positioned to benefit from the rising demand, as their locally assembled brands, including Tecno, Xiaomi, and Samsung, remain among the top 10 in Pakistan.
