Karachi: Local mobile phone manufacturing in Pakistan saw a substantial increase in September 2025, with a 55% month-on-month rise in production, according to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority. The number of mobile units manufactured or assembled by local companies reached 3.01 million, marking a 40% year-on-year increase.
This year-on-year growth can largely be attributed to a low baseline from September 2024, a period when sales were sluggish due to excessive pre-buying in June 2024 in anticipation of budget changes. Meanwhile, the month-on-month surge was driven by pent-up demand, as consumers delayed their purchases in anticipation of new model releases.
Major global brands such as Samsung, Xiaomi, and Infinix launched their latest smartphone models during September, including the Galaxy S25 FE, Redmi 15 series, and Infinix Note 40X 5G. These launches spurred a wave of replacement and upgrade activities among consumers.
In the first nine months of 2025, sales of locally manufactured or assembled mobile phones were recorded at 22.78 million units, showing a slight 1% increase year-on-year. Of these, 48% were 2G phones, while the remaining 52% were smartphones.
Pakistan met 94% of its mobile phone demand through local manufacturing or assembly during this nine-month period. Looking ahead, mobile phone sales are expected to grow by 7-8% year-on-year over the next 12 months, supported by a stable Pakistani Rupee, easing inflation, and improving consumer purchasing power.
Within the listed companies, Airlink Communication and Lucky Cement are anticipated to benefit from the rising demand, as their locally assembled brands like Tecno, Xiaomi, and Samsung are among the top 10 in Pakistan.
