Prime Minister’s Committee to Investigate Port Qasim Land Sale Applauded

Karachi: Aman Pracha, Vice President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), has expressed approval for Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif's establishment of a three-member committee tasked with investigating the contentious sale of 500 acres of land and associated financial irregularities at the Port Qasim Authority (PQA). Pracha urged that the committee deliver its findings within two weeks, advocating for strict penalties for those found culpable.

According to Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the call for investigation follows disclosures by Senator Faisal Vawda, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Maritime Affairs, regarding a 60 billion rupee corruption scandal. The Prime Minister's prompt response is seen as indicative of a broader effort to combat corruption across Pakistan. The land in question, initially designated for small and medium-sized industrial parks, has become embroiled in controversy over its sale and alleged financial misconduct.

Pracha further underscored the necessity of including private sector representatives in the committee to ensure a comprehensive and balanced inquiry.
