Karachi: The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has called on the government to enhance support and protection for women, particularly in the realms of inheritance, marriage, and maternity rights. This appeal was made during an event celebrating the contributions of women globally.
According to Union of Small and Medium Enterprises, President Zulfikar Thaver highlighted the critical roles women play across various sectors, including management, education, healthcare, and political arenas. Thaver emphasized the necessity of recognizing women’s contributions and urged legal reforms to address issues related to inheritance, child and forced marriages, maternity leave, and healthcare.
Thaver noted the significant presence of women in the judiciary, both on the bench and at the bar, underscoring their capability and dedication. He further stressed that while Islamic principles advocate for the respect and rights of women, these are not consistently applied in rural and less developed areas.
The UNISAME Council also called upon the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to extend greater support to women entrepreneurs and farmers, reinforcing the need for inclusive economic policies.
