Japan Grants $9.8 Million for Development Projects in Islamabad

Islamabad, The Japanese government has committed to providing grants totaling approximately $9.8 million to support two key development projects in Pakistan. These funds are earmarked for enhancing weather surveillance capabilities and expanding maternal and child health care services in the Sindh province.

According to Zameen.Com, the financial aid will be allocated to the "Installation of Weather Surveillance Radar in Sukkur City" and the "Extension of Maternal and Child Health Care Facilities in Sindh." This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve the Pakistan Meteorological Department's ability to forecast and observe weather conditions. Additionally, the grant will aid in the expansion of medical services at the Liaquat University Hospital in Hyderabad/Jamshoro, focusing on the needs of women and children.

The grant agreements and an exchange of notes were formalized at a signing ceremony attended by officials from both the Pakistani and Japanese governments. The health project, first announced in August 2021, involves the creation of a new center at the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences in Jamshoro, which will include various departments specializing in obstetrics and pediatrics.
