K-Electric Removes 2800kg of Illegal Wiring in Crackdown on Electricity Theft in Karachi

Karachi, As part of a national effort to address rising circular debt and line losses, K-Electric has been collaborating with law-enforcement agencies and other institutions to combat electricity theft in Karachi. This initiative is designed to ensure a safe and reliable electricity supply by removing illegal connections, known as kundas, from its network.

According to K-Electric, a recent operation in various areas, including FB Area and Lyari, resulted in the removal of 2800kg of illegal connections. This crackdown is a significant step in addressing electricity theft, which contributes to power disruptions and safety risks. The company estimates that more than 300,000 units of electric power are stolen annually in Lyari alone.

A spokesperson for K-Electric reiterated the company's commitment to continuing its efforts against electricity theft in collaboration with customers, local representatives, and elected officials. The spokesperson also praised the support from law-enforcement agencies and various organizations that have helped in the fight against electricity theft.

The spokesperson emphasized that the power distribution network and its infrastructure are designed to meet strict engineering and safety standards, with installation overseen by qualified professionals. Accessing the network through unauthorized means not only disrupts the power supply but also poses significant safety hazards for communities and residents.

The spokesperson further stated that K-Electric is regularly taking action against defaulters and illegal connections, urging the public to support the company's efforts to combat the "kunda mafia" and reduce electricity theft. Addressing this issue can help reduce losses and potentially lower the duration of load shedding in the region.

K-Electric's ongoing efforts to combat electricity theft are part of a broader strategy to improve power reliability and safety in Karachi and surrounding areas, with continued collaboration among stakeholders to achieve these goals.
