ADB and WAPDA discuss funding for crucial hydropower projects in Islamabad

Islamabad, In a key development aimed at bolstering Pakistan's hydropower infrastructure, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) have engaged in strategic discussions to secure financial backing for several vital water and energy initiatives. The meeting underscores a collaborative effort to enhance the country's energy resources through sustainable hydropower projects.

According to Zameen.Com, the discussions were led by ADB's Country Director Yong Ye and WAPDA Chairman Engr Lt Gen Sajjad Ghani (retd), focusing on potential financing avenues for key initiatives like Kurram Tangi Dam Stage-II, Naulong Dam, and Pattan Hydropower Project. The gathering aimed to address WAPDA's development portfolio's financial aspects, ensuring alignment with broader sustainable economic growth objectives and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The dialogue also encompassed progress updates on several major undertakings, including the Mohmand Dam, Diamer Basha Dam, Dasu Hydropower Project, and Atta Abad Lake Hydropower Project. WAPDA's Chairman expressed appreciation for ADB's ongoing support and looked forward to continued partnership in realizing these critical infrastructure projects, which are instrumental in advancing Pakistan's energy and water resource management sectors.
