Ahsan Zafar Syed Appointed President and CEO of Engro Corporation

Karachi, Ahsan Zafar Syed has taken over as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Engro Corporation following the completion of Ghiyas Khan's seven-year term. With three decades of experience in operations, project management, and strategic leadership across the energy, food, and agriculture sectors, Syed brings a wealth of expertise to the role.

According to Engro Corporation Limited, Syed was previously serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Engro Fertilizers, where he led the company to become one of the most significant entities on the Pakistan Stock Exchange. Under his leadership, Engro Fertilizers experienced an increase in valuation, driven by business optimization strategies such as divesting low-margin non-core operations, enhancing the market position of Engro Urea, and expanding specialty fertilizer capacity. He also introduced digital services and oversaw a major transformation at the plant site, leading to improved efficiency and capacity.

Syed's contributions to Engro extend beyond fertilizers. As the CEO of Engro Energy, he played a pivotal role in realizing the national dream of Thar coal by operating a 660 MW power project using local coal. This project has contributed to import substitution worth $1.5 billion and provides electricity to 9 million people annually. The $1.1 billion N1 plant construction, a significant milestone for Engro and one of the largest projects completed in Pakistan, was completed under Syed's guidance.

Ahsan Zafar Syed expressed his enthusiasm for his new role, saying, "I am happy to assume the position of President and Chief Executive Officer of Engro Corporation. I am grateful for the trust of the Board and appreciate the support of former President Ghiyas Khan." He noted that he is excited to lead Engro, a company dedicated to addressing contemporary challenges while upholding core values and building trust with employees, shareholders, and society.

Syed has also received recognition for his contributions to engineering in Pakistan. In 2024, he was awarded the "National Engineering Excellence Award" by the Institution of Engineers Pakistan and was appointed honorary convener for the formation of the Engineering Development Board of the Ministry of Industry and Production. Syed has supported Gender Equality and Inclusion (DE and I) initiatives at Engro, promoting increased representation of women in mid-management and developing future leadership. These efforts have garnered national and international recognition, setting benchmarks for inclusive practices within the industry.

Syed's belief in Pakistan's potential drives his focus on bridging the gap between education and health needs, with a commitment to training and empowering the nation's youth for future success.
