Apni Chhat Apna Ghar Scheme: A Milestone in Punjab’s Affordable Housing Initiative

Lahore: The Punjab government has officially launched the Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar housing scheme with a ceremonial distribution of cheques at the Expo Centre, attended by key governmental figures, potential homeowners, and numerous citizens. This initiative, detailed by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz during the event on October 3, aims to significantly ease the burden of securing affordable housing through streamlined loan processes.

According to Zameen.Com, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized the simplified loan application procedure, which now only requires land ownership documents and the applicant’s identity card. The government has committed to disbursing the first installment of loans within 45 days, signaling rapid support for eligible families.

Innovative Financing and Monthly Balloting

During her address, Maryam Nawaz announced that the scheme has already attracted over 500,000 applications, reflecting the substantial demand for affordable housing in Punjab. To maintain transparency and fairness in the allocation process, the government will conduct monthly ballots to select recipients. Additionally, the scheme offers a reduction in monthly repayment installments from PKR 15,000 to PKR 14,000, easing the financial commitment for borrowers.

Zero-Interest Loans and Extended Repayment Terms

The Chief Minister underscored the unique benefit of the scheme’s zero-interest loans, clarifying that borrowers are only obligated to repay the principal amount. “If you take a loan of PKR 1.5 million, you will only need to repay PKR 1.5 million,” she stated. The loans are structured over a nine-year repayment period, with a three-month grace period post-disbursement to help families adjust financially before beginning repayments.

Accessibility and Future Plans

Maryam Nawaz reiterated the scheme’s focus on inclusivity, especially for low-income families, highlighting the straightforward loan conditions. She assured that 100,000 houses would be financed within the first year through a clear and transparent balloting process, reinforcing the government’s commitment to improving housing accessibility.

In her closing remarks, the Chief Minister promised the continuous rollout of more loans in the upcoming months, aiming to accelerate the development of housing projects across Punjab. This initiative not only provides immediate financial relief to potential homeowners but also contributes to the long-term stability and welfare of lower-income families in the region.

The Apni Chhat Apna Ghar scheme represents a significant advancement in Punjab’s efforts to enhance living standards through sustainable housing solutions.
