Karachi: Bank Alfalah has announced a substantial contribution to The Citizens Foundation (TCF) as part of its ongoing Flood Relief Program. The bank will provide an additional PKR 177 million to aid in the rehabilitation of communities impacted by the 2022 floods. This partnership focuses on establishing educational, health, and sustainable projects to support these communities.
According to a statement by Bank Alfalah, the initiative includes a new tranche of PKR 103 million to construct three schools, with two located in Balochistan and one in Sindh. Each school is designed to accommodate 180 students and is funded at PKR 49 million. An extra PKR 5 million will support the operational costs of one school. Furthermore, Bank Alfalah is allocating PKR 25 million for the installation of two water filtration plants, two solar power systems, and the establishment of 200 Aghai Centers. These centers aim to empower women in local communities through financial and literacy support.
This collaboration marks the construction of a total of four schools under Bank Alfalah's flood relief efforts, designed to enroll 720 children from affected areas. It expands upon the initial partnership formed in 2022, when the bank committed PKR 35 million to distribute essential supplies like ration bags, books, fertilizers, and seeds to communities around TCF schools.
Atif Bajwa, President and CEO of Bank Alfalah, emphasized the importance of the partnership with TCF. He stated that the bank is committed to uplifting flood-affected communities by rebuilding schools and expanding access to education. Bajwa highlighted that literacy is not just a right but the foundation of empowerment and progress, with the bank focusing on sustainable projects to create transformative opportunities.
Mushtaq K. Chhapra, Co-Founder and Director of TCF, expressed gratitude for Bank Alfalah's support. He noted that the collaboration provides hope and opportunity to those affected by the devastating floods, with initiatives like school construction and clean water facilities having a significant impact on individuals' lives in these communities.
The partnership underscores a shared belief in literacy as a gateway to opportunity and growth, focusing on education and sustainable development in flood-affected areas. Bank Alfalah and TCF aim to invest in individuals' potential to transform their lives and communities, building a future where knowledge drives resilience and opportunities are accessible to all.
