Bank of Punjab Approves Over a Quarter Million Kissan Cards for Farmers

Lahore: The Bank of Punjab (BOP) has processed and approved 280,000 applications for the Chief Minister’s Kissan Card, a move set to significantly boost agricultural productivity by enabling farmers to procure necessary inputs like seeds and fertilizers more efficiently. This initiative is part of a broader effort to support Punjab’s agricultural sector and enhance farm outputs.

According to Zameen.Com, Punjab’s Agriculture and Livestock Minister, Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani, shared the details during a meeting in Lahore. He explained that the Kissan Card program is designed to streamline the distribution of government subsidies to farmers, who can now access these funds at 2,160 registered dealers across the province.

The Punjab Agriculture Department has already registered 800,000 farmers for the scheme, and has established 137 delivery centers to facilitate the distribution of the cards. Additionally, special teams are conducting manual verifications in non-computerized areas to ensure the integrity and accuracy of the farmer registrations.

Minister Kirmani also provided updates on the Chief Minister Punjab Green Tractor Scheme, which aims to distribute 9,500 tractors among farmers. This initiative, supported by a PKR 9.5 billion subsidy, will utilize a transparent digital balloting system to ensure fair and equitable distribution.
