Lahore, November 16, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCMAEA) said in a statement on Tuesday that it is working hard to represent Pakistan in the “Domotex ” exhibition in Germany, but according to reports so far this number is much lower than other countries, including traditional rivals.
These views were expressed by group leader Abdul Latif Malik, Chairperson of Carpet Training Institute (CTI) Pervez Hanif, Vice Chairman of the Association Ejaz-ur-Rehman, Senior Executive Member Riaz Ahmad and Saeed Khan in their joint statement. “The handloom carpet industry, which is facing unfavourable conditions, should get full support from the government for those who want to participate in international exhibitions,” they demanded.
They said that Prime Minister Imran Khan and other responsible persons should take interest in representing Pakistan in international exhibitions like “Domotex” so that other obstacles including financial crunches could be removed. “Unnecessary conditions are imposed on participation in international exhibitions due to which Pakistan will not be represented in these exhibitions as it should be to increase exports,” they added.
They said such kinds of exhibitions are the best medium for Pakistani carpet exporters to display their products to attract foreign buyers and the government should also exploit these events through financial assistances to those exporters who want to participate in these exhibitions.
They said that a formal announcement should be made as soon as possible to provide relief in taxes imposed on import of partially finished raw materials through Torkham. They said tax exemptions would stabilize Pakistan’s handmade carpet industry and provide jobs for poor artisans who make partial raw materials in Afghanistan. “We demand the government to take our demands seriously or else exports will fall further,” they concluded.
