CDA to Appoint Consultants for Major Interchange Projects in Islamabad

Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is poised to approve the appointment of consultants for two significant road projects aimed at easing traffic congestion in the city, in its upcoming board meeting.

According to Zameen.Com, the projects include the Serena Interchange and an interchange at the junction of Jinnah and 9th Avenues. Both areas are known for severe traffic issues, particularly during peak hours. Despite multiple announcements over the years, construction has yet to begin. The appointed consultants will be responsible for creating detailed engineering designs and overseeing the construction process. A CDA engineer has indicated that the design phase should be completed within two months, followed by the floating of tenders. Both projects have been prioritized in the CDA’s 2024-25 budget, ensuring they have the necessary funding.

The planned Serena Interchange will feature two underpasses aimed at improving traffic flow at a crucial intersection and is intended to make the Srinagar Highway signal-free within three months. The interchange at Jinnah Avenue and 9th Avenue, commonly known as PTCL Chowk, will similarly aim to alleviate the intense traffic congestion frequently experienced there. The upcoming board meeting will focus on hiring consultants for these projects, which is considered a top priority for the CDA, and will proceed even if some posts remain vacant.
