Karachi: Karachi-born rapper, dancer, and choreographer Daniya Kanwal has been named Spotify's EQUAL Pakistan Ambassador for the third quarter of 2026, marking a significant milestone in her emerging career within Pakistan's hip hop scene. This honor was highlighted by her recent feature on a Times Square billboard in New York City on September 26. Daniya's music, known for its authentic approach, has been showcased across multiple curated playlists on Spotify.
According to Spotify, Daniya's music combines sharp lyricism with South Asian influences, addressing themes of identity, womanhood, and societal challenges faced by young women. Her track "Mic Check" from her debut album, "Kanwal," exemplifies these themes and has contributed to a significant increase in her Spotify presence, with listeners and streams rising by over 3,470% and 6,920%, respectively, in the past year.
Before her rise in music, Daniya gained recognition as a hip hop dancer, becoming Pakistan's first female national champion in an international breaking championship in 2022. She also contributed to the HBL PSL 11 anthem "Khelenge Beat Pe" alongside Atif Aslam and others, which remains her most-streamed track on Spotify. Her music resonates particularly with younger audiences, with 70% of her listeners aged between 18 and 34, and is popular in countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and the United Arab Emirates.
