Dargai Hydel Power Station Secures PKR 10.6 Billion for Comprehensive Upgrades

Islamabad, The Dargai Hydel Power Station in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is set to undergo a major overhaul following the Water and Power Development Authority's (Wapda) allocation of a PKR 10.6 billion contract for its rehabilitation. This project, which encompasses extensive civil and electro-mechanical renovations, is expected to significantly boost the station's electricity generation capabilities.

According to Zameen.Com, the rehabilitation contract has been awarded to a consortium consisting of two Chinese firms and a Pakistani company. The signing ceremony featured key figures including Wapda’s General Manager (Hydel Development), Ihsan Ullah, and Nabeel Tahir, who represented the joint venture. Prominent attendees also included Wapda Chairman Lt. Gen. Sajjad Ghani (retd), Member (Power) Jamil Akhtar, and representatives from the Agence Francaise de Developpement (AFD), which is funding the project.

The upgrade is anticipated to enhance the power station’s output capacity to 22 megawatts, contributing an additional 130 million units of low-cost, clean electricity to the National Grid annually. The project completion is targeted within three years, promising substantial benefits in terms of energy security and sustainability for the region.
