Islamabad: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved five major proposals as part of the FBR Transformation Plan.
According to Zameen.Com, the proposals aim at enhancing the Federal Board of Revenue's (FBR) operational efficiency, accountability, and effectiveness, with a focus on combating smuggling and improving officer mobility and accommodation.
The first proposal focuses on enhancing the FBR's operational expertise and organizational capacity, aiming to improve the overall efficiency of the organization. This initiative is expected to streamline processes and optimize the functioning of the FBR.
In a bid to boost accountability and effectiveness, a new performance management system has been approved. This system will introduce new performance metrics for FBR officers, ensuring that they are held accountable for their roles and responsibilities.
Another significant proposal is the capacity building program, designed to enhance the skill levels and professional competencies of FBR officers. This development initiative will provide opportunities for officers to upgrade their skills, thereby contributing to a more competent workforce.
Anti-smuggling initiatives form a crucial part of the approved proposals. These measures are aimed at combating smuggling activities and align with the broader transformation goals of the FBR. By addressing smuggling, the FBR hopes to secure revenue and protect the economy.
The final proposal involves provisions for mobility and transit accommodation for FBR officers. This measure will facilitate officers during fieldwork, ensuring that they have the necessary resources and support to perform their duties efficiently.
The ECC's approval of these proposals is contingent on a third-party impact evaluation of the measures and their key performance indicators (KPIs) by the next fiscal year. A comprehensive review in 2025 will assess their effectiveness on revenue growth. The budgeting and allocation processes for these initiatives will be collaboratively developed by the Revenue and Finance Divisions.
