Dubai, In a significant expansion of its fleet, Emirates airline announced a $6 billion order for 15 additional Airbus A350-900 aircraft at the Dubai Airshow 2023. This new order brings the total number of A350s on Emirates' books to 65, marking a substantial investment in the airline's future operations.
According to Emirates, the purchase is part of a broader strategy to enhance the airline's long-haul capabilities. HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates airline and Group, highlighted the A350-900s' role in serving new markets, including long-haul flights of up to 15 hours from Dubai. He emphasized the commitment to work closely with Airbus and Rolls-Royce to optimize operational efficiency and passenger experience.
The significance of this order extends beyond fleet expansion. Sheikh Ahmed also connected the purchase to the broader Dubai economic vision articulated by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He underlined Emirates' role in shaping visitors' first impressions of Dubai, aiming to make it a memorable experience.
Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Airbus International, expressed pride in the ongoing partnership between Emirates and Airbus. He drew parallels between the A350's expected impact on Emirates' operations and the role previously played by the A380.
The first of these A350 aircraft is scheduled to join Emirates' fleet in August 2024, with deliveries continuing until early 2028. This order is part of a larger expansion plan, which includes 95 additional Boeing aircraft, bringing Emirates' total wide-body aircraft order book to 310.
Emirates, known for its all wide-body fleet comprising the Airbus A380 and Boeing 777, operates from Dubai to over 140 cities across six continents. The airline is recognized for its award-winning services both in the air and on the ground.
