Karachi: Engro Fertilizers has introduced a pioneering agricultural e-commerce platform called “UgAi,” designed to streamline the process of purchasing fertilizers for farmers in Pakistan. The app aims to provide farmers with direct access to fertilizers at official rates, coupled with cutting-edge agricultural technologies to optimize crop management and yield.
According to Engro Fertilizer Limited, the “UgAi” app is currently available to farmers in Sindh and plans are underway to extend its services nationwide. This platform not only facilitates the direct purchase and delivery of fertilizers from company warehouses but also incorporates advanced technologies like drone surveillance and satellite imagery to offer precise crop monitoring and management solutions.
The launch event was distinguished by the presence of Sardar Mohammad Bux Khan Mahar, Minister of the Agriculture Department of Sindh, and Rafique Ahmed Buriro, Secretary to the Government Sindh Agriculture, Supply and Prices Department. Both officials lauded the initiative for setting new benchmarks in agricultural practices within the region.
During his address at the inauguration, Sardar Mohammad Bux Khan Mahar highlighted the app’s potential to tackle issues such as artificial shortages and price distortions that adversely affect farmers. Rafique Ahmed Buriro stressed the importance of digitization in agriculture, noting that such innovations are crucial for enhancing the efficiency and global competitiveness of Pakistan’s agricultural sector.
Ali Rathore, CEO of Engro Fertilizers, underscored the company’s commitment to bolstering government efforts to enhance food security and support the agricultural community. Rathore elaborated on the benefits of the “UgAi” app, emphasizing its role in providing farmers with timely data on soil and crop health, thereby enabling better decision-making and increasing productivity.
