Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will now include tax filers from the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Central Board of Revenue and the Gilgit Baltistan Council Board of Revenue in the Active Taxpayers List (ATL).
According to Zameen.Com, the new amendments specify that residents of AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan who submit their tax returns through their respective regional boards and meet certain conditions will be eligible for ATL inclusion. This eligibility extends to those who file by the set deadlines or the extended periods granted by tax authorities. The integration into the ATL will be based on the returns filed for the latest tax year, which includes the immediate past year if its filing deadline has not yet expired.
Additionally, the FBR stated that even if filers miss their submission deadline, they can still be added to the list upon payment of a surcharge as outlined in section 182A of the Income Tax Ordinance. This provision also covers newly formed entities after June 30 of the assessed tax year. The policy adjustment aims to enhance compliance rates and expand the ATL’s coverage, promoting inclusivity across different regions.
