Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has achieved a significant milestone by integrating 8,949 large retailers into its Point of Sales (POS) system, marking a substantial increase from earlier figures.
According to Zameen.Com, as of July 2024, a broad array of retailers, including 644 restaurants and 506 leather and textile stores, have been registered under the POS system. This growth represents a stark contrast to the numbers from the FBR’s Biannual Performance Report for the latter half of 2023, which recorded only 434 retailers integrated across various regions by December 2023.
The FBR has also implemented a PKR 1 fee per receipt, which has significantly boosted revenue, collecting over PKR 1 billion. Additionally, during the tenure of the previous government, the FBR had launched initiatives to encourage the use of POS systems among consumers, including computerized ballots offering prizes for submitting POS receipts and campaigns to educate the public on the importance of obtaining receipts with FBR barcodes.
