FBR Extends Income Tax Return Deadline for 2023-24

Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns for the fiscal year 2023-24 to October 14, providing additional time for taxpayers to comply amid widespread requests for postponement.

According to Zameen.Com, the extension, detailed in Income Tax Circular No. 2 of 2024, was issued in response to appeals from various trade bodies, tax bar associations, and public petitions. This decision, under the authority of Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001, applies to all individuals and entities initially required to file by September 30, 2024.

The FBR has taken this step to alleviate pressure on taxpayers, ensuring they have sufficient time to meet their tax obligations effectively. Taxpayers are encouraged to take advantage of this period as the likelihood of further extensions is minimal, emphasizing the importance of meeting the new deadline to ensure compliance and avoid penalties.
