FPCCI and GIZ Sign MoU to Establish Responsible Business Helpdesk in Karachi

Karachi: In a significant move to promote responsible business practices, the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to set up a Responsible Business Helpdesk (RBH). This initiative, witnessed by notable dignitaries including Mr. Jam Kamal Khan, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Commerce, and Ms. Svenja Schulze, Germany’s Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, aims to enhance the compliance of Pakistani businesses with international human rights and environmental standards.

According to Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the RBH will serve as an advisory hub within the Business Coordinating Council, offering guidance on environmental due diligence and human rights to Pakistani companies. This support is expected to help local businesses, particularly in the textile sector, align with new EU regulations and improve their export capabilities by meeting international standards.

The event was marked by the presence of various high-profile individuals, including Mr. Saquib Fayyaz Magoon, Acting President of FPCCI, who highlighted the importance of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development’s (BMZ) support in this venture. The helpdesk is designed to provide awareness, advisory services, training, and dialogue facilitation, thereby fostering a more responsible business environment in Pakistan.
