Karachi: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) has announced the formation of a high-powered committee to address the ongoing harassment of Mian Muhammad Adrees, a prominent industrialist and former president of the organization. Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of FPCCI, expressed his concern over the treatment of Adrees, emphasizing the impact such actions could have on business confidence in Pakistan.

According to Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the decision to form the committee came after a unanimous resolution was passed during an Executive Committee meeting. The committee, chaired by Manzoor Ul Haq Malik, a former FPCCI vice president, includes former FPCCI President Zubair Tufail and Senators Mian Muhammad Ateeq and Talha Mahmood.

Sheikh highlighted the solidarity of the business community with Adrees, noting his contributions to industrial growth and economic development. He criticized the arbitrary harassment against trade leaders, stating it hampers investment confidence crucial for Pakistan’s economic revival.

The FPCCI President raised concerns over investigative procedures related to past power purchase agreements involving Sitara Energy Limited and others. Sheikh pointed out that actions such as placing Adrees on the Provisional National Identification List and subjecting him to travel restrictions reflect an inappropriate approach, calling for a more transparent legal process.

Sheikh urged state institutions to maintain legal propriety and urged high-level government intervention to ensure business leaders are treated with respect. He called for accountability and a transparent inquiry into the matter to foster a conducive environment for business in Pakistan.
