FPCCI Leaders Call for Electricity Price Reduction to 9 Cents per Unit

Karachi: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has highlighted the need for a reduction in electricity prices to 9 cents per unit to boost economic growth, as emphasized by Vice President Zaki Aijaz and Regional Chairman Malik Khuda Bakhsh during the fourth meeting of the FPCCI Central Standing Committee on Energy.

According to Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the meeting, led by committee convener Malik Khuda Bakhsh at the FPCCI Regional Office, focused on high electricity tariffs and existing agreements with Independent Power Producers (IPPs). Zaki Aijaz advocated for potentially renegotiating terms with IPPs or seeking alternative solutions to alleviate the financial burden on businesses and consumers by reducing energy costs. The session was well-attended by committee members, business leaders, and technocrats, who deliberated on utilizing existing energy resources, exploring new ones, and various strategic proposals.

Malik Khuda Bakhsh, in his address, conveyed the Energy Committee’s role in formulating effective recommendations for the government and pertinent institutions, aiming to tackle the challenges within the energy sector. He highlighted the committee as a vital platform for presenting expert-driven recommendations, which are instrumental in advancing energy development initiatives in Pakistan.
