Gilgit, In a major development for Gilgit, the mountain town has launched its first-ever sewerage and sanitation project, aimed at improving public health and protecting the environment. The project is expected to serve nearly half a million people and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025.

According to Zameen.Com, the initiative will cover areas from Baseen to Bab-e-Gilgit and from Tablighi Markaz to Nagar Colony Konodas. It has sparked optimism among residents, who are hopeful for significant improvements in their quality of life. Project Director Shafqat Ali highlighted the project's capacity to meet the town’s sanitation needs long-term, improve access to clean water, and address environmental issues.

The project involves the construction of a 209-kilometer sewer network with pipes ranging from 8 to 40 inches in diameter, leading to a Mechanical Sewage Treatment Plant with a capacity of 4 million gallons per day. This facility will treat the sewage for reuse, benefiting both the community and the local ecosystem.
