Islamabad: Google today unveiled a strategic initiative at the ‘Agay Barho: A Google for Pakistan Event’ in Islamabad, focusing on amplifying Pakistan’s digital exports and bridging the digital skills gap as essential steps to bolster the country’s economy. Highlighted at the event, a new report by Access Partnership outlines how enhancing digital skills and exports could significantly impact Pakistan’s economic landscape by 2030.

According to Google, the collaboration with PTCL Group is part of a broader endeavor to revitalize and expand Pakistan’s digital economy. The report, titled “Agay Barho: Empowering Pakistan’s Digital Economy,” points to a potential increase of PKR 1.8 trillion in annual export value from digital exports by 2030. It also suggests that reducing the digital skills gap could add another PKR 2.8 trillion to the national GDP by the same year.

The event also served as a platform for discussing past achievements and future commitments. Google’s AI-powered tools have already provided substantial economic benefits, totaling PKR 3.9 trillion in 2023, with significant contributions to both the business sector and households. Additionally, the company has supported numerous job creation initiatives, with over 960,000 positions filled in 2023 through Google’s influence on the digital job market.

This initiative aligns with Google’s ongoing commitment to empowering Pakistani talent and fostering a robust digital economy, focusing on developing critical skills and creating new economic opportunities through technological innovation.
