Gul Plaza Fire Sparks Calls for Accountability and Reform

Karachi: The devastating fire at Gul Plaza, which resulted in significant loss of life and property, has prompted calls for accountability and reform from Malik Muhammad Bostan, Chairman of the Currency Exchange Companies Association. He described the incident as a major tragedy, highlighting the destruction of businesses that took years to build.

According to Exchange Companies Association of Pakistan, Bostan urged the government to take immediate action to restore the livelihoods of affected shopkeepers and called on the Chief Minister of Sindh to ensure strict punishment for those responsible. He criticized the failure to enforce fire safety laws, labeling it a serious crime, and emphasized the need for immediate compensation for the traders who suffered losses.

Bostan attributed the tragedy to years of negligence, inadequate urban planning, and failing infrastructure, which he described as a significant failure of city administration and relevant authorities. He raised concerns about the availability of essential resources, questioning whether the fire brigade had access to water during the incident, and highlighted the broader issue of resource scarcity in Pakistan.

In a gesture of solidarity, Bostan expressed condolences for the bereaved families and affirmed the association's support for those affected by the tragedy.
