Islamabad, The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is making significant strides in establishing bicycle lanes across Islamabad, emphasizing sustainable transportation and environmental conservation. This initiative, part of the broader Bicycle Lab Project (BLP), aims to create a robust infrastructure for cycling enthusiasts and commuters, aligning with the city's green objectives.

According to Zameen.Com, the CDA's ambitious plan involves the construction of a 374-kilometer cycling track network intended to interlink various sectors and major avenues within the city, complementing the Purple Line Metro Bus project. The initiative, projected to cost PKR 2.4 billion, is expected to span 18 months, enhancing connectivity and offering a healthier, eco-friendly alternative to motorized transport.

Key areas targeted for this development include Khayaban Iqbal and sectors G-6, G-7, G-8, alongside Jinnah Avenue, ensuring comprehensive coverage and accessibility. The integration with the metro bus system particularly underscores a vision for a seamless, multimodal transit framework, encouraging residents to opt for cycling, especially for last-mile connectivity.

The BLP also envisages the establishment of 150 bike parking stands across the city, equipped with rental facilities for over 40 e-bikes per stand, providing a convenient and sustainable mode of transport for the populace. Additional features of the project include enhanced lighting, security measures, and essential amenities to ensure safety and comfort for cyclists.
