Karachi: K-Electric (KE) has reached a significant milestone in its renewable energy agenda by receiving 15 bids for its initial 150 MW solar projects in Winder and Bela, Balochistan. This step is part of KE's broader Power Acquisition Program (PAP), which aims to incorporate a larger share of renewable energy into its power generation mix.

According to K-Electric, the company has initiated a competitive bidding process for its renewable energy projects following approval from NEPRA, the national regulatory authority. The plan includes adding a total of 1,300 MW of renewable energy over the next five years, emphasizing KE's commitment to sustainable and reliable energy solutions. The current bid process, drawing significant local and international participation, underscores confidence in both KE's strategic direction and Pakistan's economic potential.

Syed Moonis Alvi, CEO of KE, expressed his enthusiasm about the overwhelming response to the solar project bids. He noted that this interest from reputable firms reflects a robust confidence in KE's vision for a sustainable energy future in Karachi. Shahab Qader Khan, Chief Strategy Officer at KE, also highlighted the alignment of these projects with NEPRA's directives to prioritize local and green energy sources, anticipating that the successful implementation of these projects will encourage further participation in future bids.

In addition to the projects in Balochistan, KE is also advancing other significant renewable energy projects. These include a 270 MW project in Sindh and a 220 MW hybrid wind and solar project at Dhabeji, Sindh. KE continues to invite bids from qualified local and international companies for these upcoming projects, aiming to enhance the energy landscape of Karachi and contribute to the country's economic development.
