K-Electric Clamps Down on Illegal Electricity Connections in Karachi

Karachi, In an aggressive move to curb electricity theft, K-Electric (KE) recently conducted a series of raids in New Karachi, resulting in the dismantling of 350 illegal connections that used approximately 250 kilograms of wire. This action is part of a broader initiative across the city to enhance the reliability and safety of power supply by eliminating unauthorized access to the grid.

According to K-Electric, the operations were carried out in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies in the areas of Ajmer Nagri and adjoining neighborhoods. The effort is part of a national push to address the dual challenges of rising circular debt and increasing line losses, which are exacerbated by widespread electricity theft.

KE's spokesperson highlighted the dangers posed by illegal connections, also known as kundas, noting that they not only bypass metering but also compromise the safety standards set for official power installations. The misuse of such connections can lead to severe safety hazards, including the risk of fires, short circuits, and overall disruptions to the power supply.

The company also expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from law enforcement and local community organizations in tackling these issues. Furthermore, KE has initiated facilitation camps to assist customers with bill payments and other services, particularly during the economically challenging period and the month of Ramazan, with 40 camps set up across the city to support this initiative.
