Karachi: K-Electric has submitted a petition to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for a fuel charge adjustment (FCA) of PKR 0.51 per unit for August 2024, which is PKR 2.58 lower than its requested FCA for July 2024. NEPRA concluded a public hearing on the petition, and a decision will be issued regarding the adjustment to be passed on to customers and the applicable period.
According to K-Electric, the utility had earlier requested a PKR 3.09 per unit increase for July 2024. The hearing for that request concluded on August 29, and the final decision on the amount and its reflection in customer bills is still pending. The difference in the August FCA request reflects changes in fuel prices and generation mix, which are key factors in the monthly adjustments utilities face.
Fuel charge adjustments arise from global variations in fuel prices and are reflected in consumer bills after NEPRA’s scrutiny and approval. Reductions in global fuel prices result in lower charges for customers, as will be the case if the August FCA is approved.
