Karachi: K-Electric (KE) has intensified its efforts to combat electricity theft and promote timely bill payments, resulting in the removal of over 10,000 kilograms of wire used for illegal connections in the Bin Qasim area. In collaboration with law enforcement agencies, the utility company conducted 88 operations over the past four months targeting electricity theft and bill defaulters.

According to K-Electric, these operations led to the dismantling of 6,096 illegal kunda connections, which were responsible for siphoning off 2.63 million electricity units each month. Additionally, the operations resulted in the disconnection of 4,596 residential, 1,427 commercial connections, and 46 roadside stalls.

Currently, 70% of KE's network is exempt from loadshedding, with ongoing efforts to reduce losses in areas with high theft. The frequency of loadshedding in a locality is influenced by its loss profile, primarily driven by theft and unpaid bills. Areas with lower losses enjoy minimal or no loadshedding, highlighting the advantages of responsible electricity use and prompt payment.

KE urges its customers, community leaders, and local representatives to discourage electricity theft and ensure timely bill payments. These steps are deemed essential for achieving uninterrupted power supply throughout the city. While KE continues its rigorous anti-theft campaigns, it emphasizes the necessity for government support in prioritizing the elimination of these practices to ensure sustainable energy delivery for all.
