K-Electric Seeks PKR 4.98 per kWh Relief for November Fuel Charge Adjustment

Karachi: K-Electric submitted a provisional request for a fuel charge adjustment (FCA) for November 2024, seeking to provide relief of PKR 4.98 per kWh for its customers. Following a public hearing scheduled for January 15, 2025, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will announce a decision regarding the FCA amount to be reflected in customer bills and the applicable timeframe.

According to K-Electric, the Central Power Purchasing Agency-Guaranteed (CPPA-G) has requested a negative adjustment of 0.63 paisa per unit in the tariffs for XWDiscos due to the November FCA. This marks the third consecutive FCA benefiting K-Electric customers, following adjustments of 0.16 paisa in September and 0.27 paisa in October.

Fuel charge adjustments result from global shifts in fuel prices and changes in the electricity generation mix. Utilities reflect these adjustments in customer bills, increasing them when fuel prices rise and decreasing them when prices fall, allowing customers to benefit from reduced FCAs. All FCAs are calculated based on regulatory guidelines and are implemented after NEPRA's review and approval.
