Karachi: Inspector General of Police Sindh, Javed Alam Odho, announced the ongoing operation "Nijat e-Mehran" in the Kacha Area is making significant progress, with expectations to clear the region of bandits by next month. This development comes amid a reported decline in street crime and improved law and order conditions in Karachi.
According to Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), the operation has intensified since January, resulting in the elimination of 32 bandits, the arrest of over 100 suspects, and the surrender of 225 criminals. Odho made these remarks during an address to industrialists at a KATI event. He emphasized that the decline in crime rates, including a decrease in motorcycle, car, and mobile phone snatching, reflects the city's improving security situation. Odho highlighted the importance of public cooperation with law enforcement and detailed ongoing initiatives such as the expansion of the Safe City project and traffic management improvements.
KATI President Muhammad Ikram Rajput praised the police for their sacrifices in combating terrorism and crime, underscoring the crucial role of law and order in fostering economic activity. He called for further measures to ensure a safer business environment and emphasized the Safe City project's potential to enhance surveillance and crime prevention. Deputy Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya noted the significant contribution of the Korangi industrial area to national exports and the effective countering of blackmail attempts through a task force with law enforcement.
Other speakers acknowledged the improvements in Karachi's security situation and urged continued reforms and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations. The event concluded with a reaffirmation of support from the business community for initiatives aimed at ensuring peace and stability in the city.
