Karachi Business Leaders Stress Need for Industrialization and Reduced Production Costs

Karachi: At a recent event hosted by the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), Chairman of Businessmen Group, Zubair Motiwala, emphasized the crucial role of industrialization in Pakistan’s development. The gathering, which focused on the upcoming Karachi Chamber elections, saw numerous business leaders underline the importance of unified action to address shared challenges and reduce production costs to boost competitiveness and economic stability.

According to Korangi Association of Trade and Industry, the event was attended by various dignitaries including KATI President Johar Kandhari and other prominent figures from the business community. Motiwala pointed out the current climate of de-industrialization and stressed that without freeing the export sector from restrictive measures, achieving the set target of $15 billion for exports next year would be challenging. He also advocated for a comparative study of production costs within the region to identify areas for cost reduction.

Kandhari highlighted the collective strength of the seven associations, including KATI, under the Karachi Chamber, and expressed concerns over the neglect of Karachi’s infrastructure despite its significant contributions to the country’s tax revenue and exports. Furthermore, Deputy Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya reflected on the successes achieved through joint efforts and stressed the formation of the Karachi Industrial Forum as a platform to address the community’s issues.

Acting President of the Karachi Chamber, Altaf Ghaffar, called for unity among business leaders to overcome the growing sense of disempowerment within the community, expressing optimism that their united efforts would soon yield resolutions to their problems.
