Karachi Industries Benefit from New High-Pressure Gas Lines

Karachi: The introduction of new high-pressure gas lines in the Korangi and other industrial areas of Karachi has been aimed at improving gas pressure and enhancing production capacities, as announced by Imran Munyar, Managing Director of Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC). The project, led by SSGC, seeks to address the challenges faced by industrial users due to varying gas costs and supply issues that have previously led to shutdowns in production.

According to Korangi Association of Trade and Industry, the farewell luncheon for Imran Munyar highlighted the significant strides made under his leadership, including the expansion of high-pressure gas lines and the reduction of natural gas theft by 56%—the lowest in two decades. These initiatives have substantially improved the supply chain dynamics for industries in Karachi, leading to increased investment from 9 billion to an expected 40 billion next year.

The dialogue at the event also covered the disparities in gas pricing between Sindh and Punjab, which affects the competitive landscape in Sindh due to cheaper gas available in Punjab. Concerns were raised about the additional Gas Supply Deposit (GSD) demanded by SSGC, suggesting a need for better consumer awareness to address these issues effectively.
