Karachi: In a decisive move to address the city’s crumbling infrastructure, Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has issued directives for the completion of all ongoing road work, including construction, repairs, and carpeting projects across Karachi within a week. The accelerated timeline targets critical thoroughfares to reduce traffic congestion and improve the daily commute for the city’s residents.

According to Zameen.Com, Mayor Wahab’s directives came during a high-level meeting with Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) officials, where he emphasized the urgent need for enhanced manpower and machinery deployment to meet the new deadlines. The mayor has prioritized key routes such as I.I. Chundrigar Road, Liaquat Road, and Jinnah Bridge among others, which are essential for easing traffic flows and enhancing public safety with better lighting and clear lane markings.

The mayor also ordered the conversion of streetlights to LEDs and the installation of permanent lighting around historic landmarks, aiming for energy-efficient public lighting solutions. Specific tasks were laid out for immediate execution, including the resurfacing of roads from KPT to Three Swords Clifton and the completion of lane markings on Jinnah Bridge.

Additionally, Mayor Wahab called for the removal of obstructions and unnecessary street poles along major roads and stressed the importance of completing development schemes in districts West and Central without further delays. The directive also includes opening G. Alana Road to the public by next week, marking a significant push to improve accessibility in the city.

The mayor reiterated his commitment to transparency and quality in municipal projects, insisting that funds allocated for infrastructure are used efficiently. He assured close monitoring of all ongoing projects to uphold quality standards and achieve timely completion, reflecting a broader effort to restore public confidence in Karachi’s municipal services.
