Gilgit: Severe flash floods have led to multiple blockages along the Karakoram Highway (KKH), disrupting travel from Gilgit to Khunjerab. The critical transport artery was shut down following significant mudslides, stranding thousands and impacting key infrastructure throughout Gilgit-Baltistan.
According to Zameen.Com, the KKH has become impassable at crucial locations such as Jaglot in Gilgit and Shishkat village in Hunza, leaving a large number of passengers, including both local and international tourists, stranded. Further disruptions have been reported on the Gilgit-Shandur and Gilgit-Ghizer roads, with floodwaters and overflowing local nullahs causing extensive damage to over two dozen houses and affecting several more. Essential services like bridges, roads, water supply channels, and electricity systems have also been severely damaged. Other affected areas include Aliabad, Haiderabad, Shigar, and Nagar. Despite the scale of the disaster, no official government statement has been issued about the total damages, and the Director General of the GB Disaster Management Authority has not been available for comment.
