KARACHI: The Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) and the Shahid Afridi Foundation (SAF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on initiatives in healthcare, education, provision of clean drinking water, and vocational training for young people. The agreement aims to leverage the strengths of both organizations to address social welfare needs in underprivileged areas.

According to Korangi Association of Trade and Industry, the MoU was signed by KATI Senior Vice President Zahid Hameed and SAF CEO Zafar Malik, in the presence of KATI President Muhammad Ikram Rajput and renowned cricketer Shahid Afridi. The event was attended by various stakeholders, including government officials, business leaders, and members of the industrial community. During the ceremony, members of the business community committed over Rs30 million to support SAF's welfare initiatives.

Shahid Afridi emphasized his commitment to giving back to society, citing the love and support he has received from Pakistan and its people. He highlighted the importance of ensuring access to essential services such as education, healthcare, clean water, and sports facilities, particularly in underserved areas. Afridi's philanthropic journey, which began with a healthcare project, has expanded to benefit remote communities across the country.

KATI President Muhammad Ikram Rajput announced the organization's initial commitment to cover the educational expenses of 30 students at Tee Square schools, a project under the SAF umbrella. Rajput underscored the importance of a robust partnership between the industrial sector and SAF to launch impactful projects in various social sectors, aiming for direct benefits to communities.

Zahid Hameed, KATI's Senior Vice President, reiterated the potential for cooperation between KATI and SAF, suggesting that their combined efforts could create a sustainable model for social empowerment. He expressed KATI's readiness to transform Corporate Social Responsibility into a more collaborative Corporate Social Partnership, aiming for long-term social impact.

Sindh government spokesperson Nadir Gabol praised Shahid Afridi as a national hero and discussed the potential of young people in Lyari. He suggested the development of a cricket stadium under SAF's management to offer professional training to local youth, fostering their talents and potentially bringing further accolades to Pakistan.

The event also featured remarks from former KATI President Junaid Naqi, SAF CEO Zafar Malik, and Tee Square CEO Zainab Hameed, all expressing optimism about the newly formed partnership's potential to drive meaningful social change.
