Karachi: The Akhiro-1 well located in the Khairpur district of Sindh is poised to significantly boost Pakistan's natural gas output by producing an estimated 10 million cubic feet of gas per day, as announced following a major discovery in the Lower Gour B Reservoir by the Sawan South Joint Venture.
According to Zameen.Com, the joint venture responsible for this development includes several key players: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) with a 20% interest, United Energy Pakistan Limited (UEPL) holding a dominant 75% as the operator, along with Government Holding Private Limited (GHPL) and Sindh Energy Holding Limited (SEHL), each maintaining a 2.5% stake.
The drilling operations for Akhiro-1 commenced on June 15, 2024, achieving a final depth of 12,442 feet. The well’s capacity was tested and it delivered gas at an impressive rate of approximately 10 million standard cubic feet per day, utilizing a choke size of 24/64 inches while recording a Wellhead Flowing Pressure of 4,000 pounds per square inch.
This significant discovery was officially disclosed in a material information report to the Pakistan Stock Exchange this past Wednesday, highlighting its potential to enhance the nation's energy resources and supply chain stability.
