Korangi Association Calls for Audit of CPPA-G to Address Rising Electricity Prices and Transparency Concerns

Karachi: The Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) has urged the government to conduct a full audit of the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA-G) and independent power producers (IPPs). The demand stems from concerns over soaring electricity prices, which are reportedly crippling domestic industries.

According to Korangi Association of Trade and Industry, the CPPA-G’s adjustments of electricity rates and financial payments to IPPs lack proper scrutiny. The association claims that the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) relies primarily on information provided by CPPA-G without conducting independent verification, leading to a lack of transparency in payment processes. KATI also raised concerns over CPPA-G’s cash rationing system, stating that the principles governing this rationing are unclear, further exacerbating the risk of financial corruption.

KATI believes that a transparent audit of these processes would help reduce electricity prices, clarify the payment rationing system, and ensure transparency, allowing industries to recover from the economic strain caused by rising energy costs.
