KARACHI: The establishment of sustainable law and order in the Korangi Industrial Area is the top priority for the police, Fidah Hussain Janwari, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Korangi, announced during a meeting at the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI). Police operations are being enhanced with smart technology to improve security in this key industrial zone.

SSP Janwari stated that the police would implement positive proposals from KATI to enhance law and order. A deployment of 500 police personnel is planned for District Korangi to strengthen security measures further. He emphasized the economic significance of the Korangi Industrial Zone, which contributes over 60 percent to the national exchequer.

KATI President Muhammad Ikram Rajput highlighted the necessity of completely eliminating crime in industrial areas to attract investment. He urged an increase in police strength and the use of modern technology to maintain order in densely populated Korangi. Rajput called for decisive action against street crime, extortion, and theft, noting that illegal roadside hotels in the area provided havens for criminals.

Zubair Chhaya, Deputy Patron-in-Chief, demanded action against elements blackmailing and extorting industrialists under the guise of workers' welfare. He mentioned a successful neighborhood care project in Korangi involving private security guards to address the shortfall of police personnel.

Danish Khan, Chairman of the Law and Order Committee, underscored the collective responsibility to provide a safe environment for the 1.5 million people who work in the Korangi Industrial Area daily. Despite a decline in the overall crime rate, street crime remains a challenge. Khan expressed concern over robberies and the targeting of individuals withdrawing cash from banks, stressing the need for immediate action to restore public trust in law enforcement.
