Karachi: The stock market witnessed a notable downturn as both the KSE30 and KSE100 indices fell sharply, reflecting a broader market decline. The KSE30 index closed at 50,247.11 points, a decrease of 925.02 points, while the KSE100 index ended the trading session at 168,865.04 points, down by 3,078.56 points. These declines represent percentage drops of 1.81 and 1.79 respectively.
According to Pakistan Stock Exchange Limited, the trading session saw a significant increase in market activity despite the downturn. The regular market turnover increased to 628,673,961 shares from the previous 477,674,710 shares, with the traded value rising to 27,016,289,182 from 22,637,627,583. Additionally, the market capitalization decreased to 18,854,690,413,798 from the previous 19,233,413,834,011, indicating a substantial loss in market value. The data showed that the direct foreign currency market turnover also experienced a boost, with 175,545,500 shares traded compared to the previous 131,978,500 shares, and the traded value rising to 8,958,054,110 from 7,107,382,575.
